Easter 2011

Granny Boo Boo and GG came to visit us on Easter weekend! We had a fun time playing, shopping, and visiting.

Both of your Easter baskets got a little more stuffed after Granny B and GG arrived.

Betsy you LOVE to pretend to be all kinds of different animals. You put this mask on and hopped all over the kitchen. Easter is the perfect day to be a pretend bunny rabbit don't you think?

By far your favorite present EVER. You are a mean driving machine....that mommy has to keep up with until I get you a helmet! You push that 5mph to the max!

We did an early afternoon Easter egg hunt in the yard while Kyle took a nap.

Daddy even helped too!

GG and I took a short trip across the road to see the old mill at Levi Jackson state park before her and Granny B had to head back home to Illinois.

We spent the rest of the afternoon hunting Easter eggs and eating a yummy ham at the Hicks home. You both had a great time with your buddy Rachel, who was kind enough to share her eggs with you. What a good friend. :)

We traveled eight hours to spend Christmas weekend with our families in Illinois. It was so nice to see everyone during the Holidays! Unfortunately we ran around like mad people trying to get a visit in with every last relative and didn't have much time for picture taking. Although the memories will never be forgotten.

Halloween at Disney!

The one and only picture we have of you in your costume. It was adorable, absolutely the cutest minnie mouse ever...and you hated it. You wore it for maybe five minutes before you ripped it off. But I must say you did better than Kyle. He was Buzz Lightyear for about 5 seconds. Maybe he wanted to be Woody. Anyway, it didn't matter one bit to the little old lady behind the counter at Goofy's Candy Store. She gave you all the candy you could want.

Finding Nemo! By far the coolest thing at Disney. At least in Betsy and Kyle's opinion.

We spent a beautiful October Saturday at Kelley Farms in Lexington, Kentucky with our good friends Angelia and Tim and Betsy's bff Rachel. We picked pumpkins, got lost in the corn maze, relaxed on the hay ride and topped it off with hot funnel cakes. Doesn't get any better than that!

Betsy on the first day of school! You love your two year old class. Often when I come to pick you up you beg to stay and want nothing to do with me. :)

First dentist appointment. You did so well...no cavities!

Right before school started we took a trip to the Aquarium in Gatlinburg with our good friends and their daughter, Rachel. You all loved it!

Kyle couldn't get enough of all the fish and their cool colors.

Daddy's shoulders are a nice place to rest when you're all out of gas!

Still not so sure about pedaling but scooting along with your feet got you around just fine.

A short break from running up and down the driveway at full speed. I believe this is the day I realized how much you enjoy scaring your mother.

Making sure "brudda" was well hydrated on a hot summer day. Love it.

Crawling? Psshh...it's for the birds. You only crawled to the nearest thing in sight and pulled yourself up so you could cruise along!

Dear Betsy and Kyle,

What a fun month May has been. There were birthdays, weddings, movies, more birthdays! Your Daddy, Papaw Mark, and best buddy Shawn all had a birthday this month. Betsy you really enjoyed daddy's birthday cake. You love cake. If all edible things in the world ceased to exist, except for cake, you would feel spectacular. Because then mommy wouldn't make you eat green beans, peas, chicken, rice, or anything else that might have some nutritional value....just cake. And, in your opinion, I'm sure that would be just spectacular.

Last week we went to a beautiful wedding. Kyle, you really enjoyed yourself until we got to the reception. You had enough. It was too hot and too loud to be cute any longer. So your daddy took you home to cool off and watch dvr'd Bill Dance.

And Betsy as soon as we buckled you in your car seat you started screaming for more "mooooooskit" or music as grown ups like to say. So we stayed and you danced the night away. You were a dancing queen! You danced with everyone...other little boys and girls, grown ups you know from visiting daddy at work and bridesmaids you didn't know. You even danced with your mom which was too mortifying (even at the age of two) to do for more than fifteen seconds. But you didn't care as long as you were dancing and I didn't care as long as I got to watch you be so incredibly happy and care free.

Your language skills still amaze me every day. You like calling me mom instead of mommy. You also like saying it over and over and over again so you can hear me say what?! over and over and over again. You like to play the silly game of asking me what sound is it you hear whenever you hear any kind of noise whatsoever and when I tell for you for example, it's a train, you say no, it's a airpwane and then giggle because you know you're being silly.

Today I took you to your very first movie in a theater. We went to see Shrek in 3D! You were over the glasses in about 10 minutes but the popcorn and candy were enough to keep you still through almost the whole movie.

When something silly would happen you would giggle "silly Shrek" and when something bad would happen you would say "UH_OH!" which made the people sitting around us laugh out loud. We missed the last fifteen minutes of the movie because you told me you had to go potty. Holy cow!!! You told me you had to go potty! That was the first time you've ever said that when we've been out in public. I was so proud, I didn't care about anything but getting you on that potty. And after we left the restroom you didn't care about anything but those arcade games that were calling your name. So we played a few games instead of watching the rest of the movie and you were happy. You won an ugly stuffed monkey which was sadly the cutest stuffed animal in there.

Kyle, you have almost mastered the whole hand-eye coordination thing. Pretty much everything and I mean EVERYTHING within your reach goes in to your cute little mouth. Toys have taken on new meaning as you search for that one edible toy that you will never get tired of drooling on. I dug out your sissy's old baby toys to help aid you in your quest. You are still rolling over from your belly to your back. You don't seem interested in doing much else. Why bother learning how to roll from your back to your belly when you have three maids that fuss over you and do it all for you. You love to be tickled on your neck. We play a game where daddy or I act like we are chomping away at your neck and you giggle. Boy, oh boy, does it make you giggle when daddy does it with his scratchy beard. Your sissy gets in on the game too and yells at us to "no bite it!!!". Silly sissy.

Kyle, you slept through the entire night last night for the first time. You didn't wake once, at all, I couldn't believe it! You went to bed around 10 and got up at 6:30! Have you figured out that we're better parents when we're well rested? Because I could have told you that a few months ago and saved ourselves all these sleepless nights. Its' OK though because one day, soon enough I'm sure, I will be watching you sleep peacefully in your crib and wishing you were still that tiny newborn who preferred sleeping in my arms. So wake up, cry, and NEED me all you want because I will never stop needing you to want me.

And Betsy that goes for you too!

These are two of my favorite recent pictures of Betsy and Kyle. I feel so lucky to be their mother, I am beyond blessed.

Judson had to work on Mother's day this year so we celebrated the Thursday before. We had a cookie cake that Betsy enjoyed very much. In fact, it's all she talked about for two days. I also got a beautiful KitchenAid mixer from my wonderful husband. He made the best banana bread Saturday and we snacked on it all weekend.

Dear Betsy and Kyle,

Kyle you are two months and three weeks old! How can you be almost three months old already! Where has the time gone? You love to be held and talked to. You especially love to hear how handsome you are. (Which you hear about 1,956 times a day.) You laugh out loud now. Mommy and Daddy can get you to laugh sometimes but it's your big sissy who can make you giggle for no reason. We think she's fun to watch too.

You had all your grandparents come to visit this month.

And boy oh boy did you get spoiled...okay, you may have been just a little spoiled before they got here.

You met your grandpa Kevin and grandma Joan for the first time this month. They just thought you were too cool! You cried the first time grandpa Kevin held you and we all laughed because your sissy did the same thing to grandpa Kevin when she was your age.

You can roll over on your side. You have started taking naps in your crib like a big boy. Your doctor wants to know when you're going to start sleeping in your crib at night. Did you hear that? I think she's a little pushy too. We'll work on that one when we're ready.

Betsy you are twenty-six months old! You act so much older than you are. You are so smart, so very smart. You blow me away with something new everyday. You can count to ten. You often leave out seven and eight but who needs seven and eight anyway?

You love to describe everything you see "blue fishy, big truck, yellow house". You have started putting sentences together, "I no want it, some more apple juice please". Your favorite book right now is 'Are You my Mother?' and we read it every night, usually more than once. Sometimes you read it to mommy and daddy, describing the pictures on the page and repeating from your memory.

You know all the basic colors and can draw a circle, square, and triangle. You LOVE to finger paint. You would do it all day if I let you. You have grown so much in the past few months that I wish I could hit a pause button.

I also sometimes wish I could be a better mother. When I'm tired and don't read you the book you want me to over and over again or when I get aggravated that I trip over you so many times a day because every time I turn around you're there and I tell you that I'm not going to have any toenails left by the time you start high school because you step on them 50 times a day. What you don't know is how scared I am of the day that I turn around and you won't be there. Some days I feel like all I tell you is "don't hit your brother, we don't kick your brother either, mine is not a nice word, we cannot hit the dogs, we do not throw our toys". Somewhere in those busy, sometimes frustrating days I always tell you how much I love you and how much you rock! We high five and giggle. I hope those are the things you remember most.

Betsy weighed 43lbs and was 39in tall at her 24 month check-up. Still off the charts for her age. Bets was very good for Carla, her nurse practitioner, naming all sorts of colors and shapes. She even gave Carla a kiss. Unfortunately, she had to get a shot at her check-up which sent her good mood flying over to the dark side. I've never seen her throw such a fit. So we went to McDonald's for a chicken nugget happy meal and that seemed to do the trick.

All Grown Up

I woke up this morning to find my husband and daughter shaving in our bathroom. Her daddy even helped her apply some shaving cream so she didn't get razor burn from my hair clip! I've been thinking a lot lately about how grown up Betsy is. In a few short months she will be turning two but it feels like she's so much older than she is! She already can tell me when she doesn't feel good, like over the weekend she held her left ear and said "ear hurts". She knows all the major body parts and loves to point them out to me on her stuffed animals. Her favorite book isn't a cute little baby board book, it's 'If you Give a Pig a Pancake'. When it gets dark out she loves to take me to the window and show me the moon and stars. She loves the movie Cars and will actually sit down and watch most of it, especially if she has her blanket and a good snack. She role plays everyday, cooking in her kitchen and playing mommy to her dolls. She tells me that "daddy is at work, home later." The other day she made me put a diaper on her elmo and cubby dog because they "poop, uck". Not to mention that she already knows the colors blue, green, and pink. She asks me to paint her toes so she can have "pretty toes". I could go on and on here but it just seems that she does something new every day to amaze me, she's just so far ahead of herself. It makes me a little sad to think of how quickly she has grown in just two short years. I don't think my baby boy could be coming at a better time, I'm missing all the baby stuff!

Betsy's Thanksgiving tree lists all her favorite things on the leaves, the things she is most thankful for. We hung it on the kitchen wall by the dining table, where it will stay until after Thanksgiving. This was Betsy's first big craft project and her first time using glue. She would point to wear she wanted me to put the glue and then stick the leaves on. She did so well that I've already lined up a few more projects to do in the near future!

BIG Discovery

I knew this day was coming but I really didn't think it would be so soon. This morning Betsy pushed one of the kitchen chairs all the way over to the counter so she could climb on top and get in to that yummy looking bowl of Halloween candy! Of course she had to investigate a few other things. I'm just thankful she stayed in the chair and did not attempt to get on the counter.

Pumpkin Carvin

Carving pumpkins is one of Judson's favorite things to do with Betsy. Although she isn't old enough to really enjoy it yet, she did have fun touching the inside goo and saying "ucky, shoo" over and over. Betsy and I tried to carve a pretty design on our pumpkin but the paper somehow ended up in shreds. We just made a silly face instead. We still have that big 30 pounder on the porch to carve...we'll leave that one to daddy!

The ultrasound showed a perfect little boy! He weighs almost one pound which is right on schedule for 21 weeks. Daddy had to work so Betsy and I stopped by to have lunch and show him the ultrasound pictures.

I took Betsy to the Urgent Care Center yesterday and she has her first ear infection and stomach bug. She didn't seem to being feeling well for the past couple days but I thought she had been working on cutting another tooth. The doctor said her ear didn't look painful, just a little irritated and to put her on the BRAT diet until her stomach bug clears up. Daddy filled her first prescription yesterday, bubble gum flavored amoxicillin. Poor baby!

This is just a short video of Betsy taking a couple steps. She's mad because I sat her down so she's coming to get me! Betsy has started walking at 8 months 1 week! She took three steps yesterday and six today all on her own! I don't have a video yet but don't worry...I'll post one soon!
